In May 2022, a hackathon was held on the subject of waste and recycling – reducing consumption and reducing the amount of waste transferred to landfills. The hackathon, which took place as part of T-day the roadshow 2022, is the result of a collaboration between ASAT, the Dean of Students, the Social Incubator and the Sustainability Center.
About 30 visionary and environmentally conscious students participated in the competition, who were grouped into six teams that included students from a variety of faculties, and received guidance and guidance from academics, government and industry.
Throughout the competition, the students participated in two fascinating inspirational lectures, one on the climate crisis given by a representative of the "Green Network", and the other on the topic of "Recycling mechanisms in Israel" delivered
by the CEO of the Tamir Corporation.The first three award-bearing places were reached by the following teams and projects:
First place was won by the students: Tal Even Tzur, Adi Menachem, Dvir Dimi from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Gilat Toker from the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management, with the project to develop a modular divided tin in different volumes that reads a barcode scan of a product and directs the consumer to throw the product in its designated location.
Second place was won by the students: Ran Darzi from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Omer Inbar from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Shai Gendelman from the Faculty of Computer Science, Eden Shukron and Bar Stoker from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, with the project to monitor green bins and track the percentage of turnover at the source.
Third place went to students Hagai Shechter, Tomas Makowsky and Shahar Blau from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering with the project to spray a fungus that "eats" the waste and reduces the volume and weight of waste inside the storage containers and continues its role in landfills.
The professional panel of judges included Prof. Michel Portman of the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning, Dr. Elyakim Ben-Hakon of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management, Dikla Nachman head of the Administration and Logistics Unit, Dr. Dorit Baum, who is appointed for environmental education from the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and Avivit Erel, director of marketing authorities from the Tamir Corporation.
