................................................................................Climate change on the bar
The Technion presents: "Climate change on the bar" marked by the role of academia in light of the climate crisis.
On Monday, November 7, 2022, the Technion held the "Climate change on the Bar" event throughout Haifa, with the participation of senior faculty staff and students who lectured in 3 pubs in the city.
Bar Galim - Prof. Carmel Rothschild in a lecture on the heat engine as a source of renewable energy.
Yaara Bar Cafe - Assoc. Prof. Michel Portman in a lecture on climate on runoff and seawater.
Nola Socks - Technion student voices present the green trend, fair trade, the vegan cell and the donut economy.

Thank you to all the participants who donated their time to this important cause.
................................................The role of academia during the climate crisis

In parallel with the climate conference of all the leaders of the nations of the world (COP27),  the Technion have devoted the time to marking the climate-ecological crisis in academia, in light of the understanding that the actions for which we stop from routine reflect our values and our nations. The Academy for Climate convened a panel of speakers by senior Technion faculty members presenting the Academy role with the climate crisis: Assoc. Prof. David Brodai, Prof. Gadi Capluto, Assoc. Prof. Daniel Orenstein, Prof. Tali Tal, Assoc. Prof. Carmel Rothschild and Dr. Abigail Landman.
Alongside the panel stood the stands of Green Trend, Fair Trade, the Vegan Cell, the Moed Bet store and next to them smoothie bikes (a unique activity that encourages green energy and combines fitness, proper nutrition and pleasure).

...................................................Climate March 2022 in Tel Aviv
This year as well, a delegation of Technion representatives embarked on the largest climate march in Israel.

A few days before the World Climate Conference in Egypt and before the Knesset elections, the 2022 Climate March is the most important, urgent and largest parade held in Israel. In a reality where the climate crisis is disrupting our daily lives and threatening our present and future more than ever, we do not have the privilege of sitting at home. We can't settle for empty passwords; We have a responsibility to join forces, to march together and to demand that decision makers in Israel act now in order to deal with humanity's greatest danger.
...............................................................................................Our coffee - your cup
Cooperation with all cafeterias on campus encourages you to both protect your pocket and preserve the environment.
You are welcome to come to the buffets with your personal cup, and enjoy a discount on coffee prices.
If you don't have a high-quality thermal cup, we've made the perfect cup for you to buy on the spot, and even indulge in a free first coffee.

Switching to a reusable - this is our choice!
The Technion works hard to reduce its carbon footprint from energy consumption. Find out what we do:
Separating packaging from building kitchenettes
The orange bin is approaching the doorway!
The plastic packaging, the metal packaging, the milk cartons, the food packaging... All of these are the main volume of our waste. With the introduction of the Packaging Law and the distribution of orange bins throughout the campus, the Sustainability Center produced orange bins for kitchenettes in the various faculties and units in order to encourage employees to separate packaging.

Recycle!
That's what we're doing today
..................................The sustainability center in the walking bus project
The Human Resources Division came out with a new initiative to get to know our campus through the feet.
The Sustainability Center also participated as part of the Yellow Line.
If we have not yet met - we invite you to sign up for the following tours and enjoy a tour of the campus between the various units.

........................................................................................?Did you know
  • Production of a single A4 sheet consumes 10 liters of water.
  • The world uses 30,000 trees every day for toilet paper.
  • 45% of prints are thrown away on the same day.
  • An average family uses six trees each year.
The planet we live on produces and consumes hundreds of tons of paper every year. 93% of the world's paper is made from trees. Production of 1 kg of paper consumes 3 times its weight in wood. Paper production also consumes energy and electricity, space to store the garbage generated in the process, oil and a lot of water.
In developed countries, the average person consumes about 250 kg of paper per year. Just to give you an idea, if every inhabitant of the planet consumed 200 pounds a year, there would be no trees left in the world!

Reduce paper use - save the environment that keeps us safe!

...................................................Placing water dispensers to save on plastic bottles
In the past year, water facilities have been installed in the student house and in the Ullmann building for the welfare of the students. The water dispensers are very efficient, user-friendly, accessible to people with disabilities and also help save disposable water bottles through the bottle counting mechanism that is saved with each use.

As of January 2022, 32,887 bottles of water have been saved in both buildings!
....................................................................................HP Recyclable Toners
We understand that there are problems with recycling printer toners.
At the same time, we managed to find a recycling company for empty and large HP toners (As pictured)
If you use this type of toner, it can be sent back to the general warehouse for recycling.
The toners can be stored in bulk or sent in a bag by internal mail to the warehouse.
For any questions, you can contact the Sustainability Center or Roy Romano from the General Warehouse.
Thank you for your cooperation.
........................A second chance for intelligent consumerism - Moed Bet store
Come be part of the change and the circle of giving, and get to know "Moed Bet"- a second hand Technion store, located near the Rabin building, at the parking lot.
In the store you can find clothes for all ages, bags, jewelry, household items and kitchenware, books, children's games, candles, decorative objects and even records.
The store, which was born as an initiative of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, is open to the entire Technion family at symbolic prices that are transferred back to ASSAT activities.
